As the title may suggest, it’s been quite a long time since I’ve posted anything to this blog. Under normal circumstances an apology would be in order; however, I’ve been ceaselessly slaving away at overthrowing the current hip-hop/rap music regime, so you must excuse me. When I’m not writing or recording new material, I’m constantly returning to my earlier work in an attempt to ‘perfect’ it- a goal I am (unfortunately) well aware is impossibly out of reach for me given that I’m overburdened with the Sisyphean task of producing professional, major-label quality content with ‘project studio’-style equipment. Like most people, the limitations of my craft(s) are dictated by budgetary constraints. There’s also the simple fact that the market for new music, especially of the hip-hop variety, is too overly saturated to expect to make any legitimate headway. If the old venture capitalist-tinged adage that ‘it takes money to make money’ possesses any degree of veracity, then I shall never actually make a dime. Not only must I write, perform, record, engineer, and produce all the music for my upcoming debut album myself (using only the equipment and skill I’ve managed to painstakingly accumulate over the years by my own tireless tenacity and insanity-driven ambition to become something greater than I already am), but, by the same token, I am also forced to complete the other 90% or so of the music business equation by my lonesome: the marketing and promotion of the ‘product’ aforementioned. I know better by now, but I still can’t help but hope that the amount of success I’ll eventually achieve will pay off to a level that, if nothing else, at the very least directly correlates to the amount of work I’ve put into growing my brand. But my faith in humanity has before now been shattered, so I don’t expect anything from anyone. One would like to believe that each person who listened to one of my songs (which are better than a fair number of the hits that are currently popular in the same genre) and/or watched one of the videos I’ve created by using bits and pieces of moving pictures I’ve collected myself (using part of the Film Directing MA I almost completed in 2011), royalty-free stock footage, or some combination of the two, would be inspired to share the work with just one other person. There’s simply no good reason not to given the sheer number of people who are glued to social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. But, then again, the pain with which I’m dealing in trying to do something different (and hopefully important as well, with ramifications that continue to be relevant long after I’ve ceased to exist) doesn’t concern the ‘other.’ These aren’t cat videos I’m making- just expressions of individuality, audacity, authenticity, and blind ambition that require years of both extensive study and immersive trial-and-error to bring to fruition. If you do find yourself tired of the same old shit in hip-hop though, get at me. I’m not hard to find on the net. While you’re at it, watch the new music video for ‘Boom (Dynamite/Battleship)’ by clicking here. By the way, I’m also searching for bloggers/vloggers who wouldn’t be adverse to reviewing my music in exchange for free downloads and/or other trinkets representative of thankfulness and goodwill. If you know someone who operates a music blog, or if you happen to be one such blogger yourself, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. In fact, I implore you to do so. I insist. Commerce has always been based upon a mutual coincidence of wants.
